This Solent-Class Lifeboat 48 was built as the first of a series of 11 lifeboats for the R.N.L.I. and was called "George Urie Scott". The Solent-Class Lifeboat 48 was the first series of lifeboats with a steel hull; until then a wooden hull was common. It was the last type designed by the R.N.L.I.

The Solent-Class Lifeboat 48 is built as a self-aligning lifeboat. What was new was that this was done by means of a watertight structure instead of a complicated system based on water ballast.

The "George Urie Scott" has sailed under the R.N.L.I. Operational Number 48-004. In the period 1969-1978 and 1985-1989 the location was Lochinver in Scotland and from 1979 to 1984 Rosslare Harbor in Ireland. A total of 50 actions were carried out, in which 6 people were saved.

The current owner of the Solent-Class Lifeboat 48, which has since been renamed "Highlander", has made both sea and domestic voyages. The hull was completely sandblasted in 2008. In November 2018, the underwater ship was again sandblasted and put in epoxy. The hull was also painted then. The superstructure was painted in June 2018.
