Zeetjalk 'Orion' was built in 1892 by shipbuilder Jan Mol on the Moerheimstraat in Dedemsvaart. In 1952 she was converted into a motor ship with a horizontal Deutz with side propeller as the first engine. The 'Orion' was taken out of service in 1975, after which she was converted into a sailing charter ship in 1982. The large foredeck has been maintained.
The current owner has renewed a lot since 2007, so you can speak of a refit:
- 2007: 13 kVA generator and central heating;
- 2009: Strikwerda winches;
- 2010: New sails;
- 2012: Cummins main engine;
- 2017: New swords, steel mast:
- 2018: New rudder; 2019:
- Steel boom
- Etc.
The 'Orion' is in very good condition. NBKB, CvO and CBB valid until 26 November 2023.
